You know, BilliBob, I had the same kind of conversation with a guy about the price of grain a little over a year ago. He was "crying the blues" about losing money on his wheat.  I asked if he really lost money, or if he did not make as much as he could have.  When I put it that way, he admitted that the latter was true.  He did indeed make money on his wheat crop, but not as much as he could have if he had sold at "peak price".
