Holy Cross, IA | From what I have been led to believe, CRP hay has pretty much ZERO nutritional value, especially if you have to wait until Oct 1 to harvest. We first started harvesting CRP about 10 years ago to feed to beef cows and our nutritionist advised us to make sure the cows received grain as well because they could starve if only fed CRP hay. They could eat as much as possible, but not get anything out of it. Works great as roughage in a TMR mix when ground. We make around a hundred acres every year for our finisher diets. Works well in grower rations if its clean and has been clipped in the last couple years. | |
