I think you need Chevy info, not Cat info. That's a simple mechanical engine with one wire to a solenoid to run, no computer on the engine. (maybe a way over complicated mechanical engine, but it's NOT electronic) What I mean is that the oil pressure is not going to Max and then dropping and repeating, that's the dashboard computer sending you smoke signals, which might not be related to the engine, the dashboard only gets volts, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temp, right? I'd guess as likely as not, your oil pressure sender isn't sending, and the black smoke is a coincidence. Did you check the obvious? mechanical oil pressure? coolant level and temp? how does it sound at idle? Fuel pressure, filters and any air in the return?

I'm assuming this is a mechanical engine, I've been told that heui 3116's exist, but I've never seen or heard of them in Top Kicks. The mechanical engine has one wire going to a fuel transfer pump high on the front left of the engine, and a control rack under the valve cover.
