I spent some time watching the big grower near NAT'er Venice View's farm in central NY at harvest time, talking thousands of acres of fresh pick. the goal was to get it into New York City within eight hours of picking. Twelve row tractor mounted walkway with conveyor to the wagon behind... with a bus load of well tanned individuals picking and packing crates, loading single axle trucks that went to the ice shacks for a quick cool down and then on to semis for the long haul into the city. Freshness is what it is all about.
