That is a good point. Even on my flat fields it is a good feeling to see the seedlings up and at it before a heavy rain.
Another thing I liked about the succotash silage is it made the soil surface firmer to ride on when the alfalfa was ready to cut.
Yesterday I left the field do to dragging and plugging of my haybine in the soft surface of this years clear seeding. I hope it's dry enough to go this afternoon. My bar is sharp and in good shape but I have had this problem before. I cut the 4 year old stand with no problem. 3 separate 6/10ths to 1 3/10 inch rains in the last while on top of everything prior keeps the ground softer than usual.
