Subject: RE: Fix wing drone anyone?

North Central Iowa
We fly both versions here at our college so our students can see first hand how the two types compare and contrast. Our fixed wing was one of the first models released and cost $30,000. Their newer models of fixed wing are considerably less. We are using Phantom 4's for our multi-rotor and one has a sentera camera mounted on it which gets us the NIR images. We also got an NIR camera with our fixed wing.

After several years of running both, I can honestly say that our multirotor can do the same thing as the fixed wing for a lot less. The only thing you lose out on with a multirotor is battery life is about half of the fixed wing...so the fixed wing can cover more ground on one battery. But with the field sizes you listed, a multirotor should be able to cover the whole field on one battery.

Hope this helps but if you need more information, feel free to contact me. Complete contact info is in my profile.

Good luck!
