northeastern Ohio		Never used any safety ropes on submersibles here.

I can remember 2 times where we had to fish the pump out:

1) steel line rusted and broke at threads when pulling pump out. Never used steel pipe after that (this was 30+ years ago)

2) some idiot decided to do some donuts in a yard, ran into the well casing which broke off the casing as well as the pipe
