Subject: RE: Meatless meat

CNY
I read the same article yesterday. This is not about vegetable based meat substitutes but about "meat" grown from culturing actual meat cells. At this point there is a long way to go to bring the cost down to where it will appeal to a mass market but it may happen. Someone in that business said that they don't expect traditional meat to disappear but are offering a choice to people who "love meat" but are concerned about supposed environmental concerns ( he didn't say "supposed") or treatment and slaughter of animals. You can bet if they get the price low enough they will use those concerns in a typical large scale advertising campaign to try to take over the market.

Personally I would/will try it to see what it's like. If it's as good as it has seemed to be in blind taste tests the real meat industry better figure out how to fight back. "Know your enemy".

Seems like business types see the possibility of profit here. Deep pockets like Cargill, Tyson Foods and Bill Gates are investing in it.
