I've noticed cows always eat hay better after it's gone through it's "sweat ". One year I baled some very nice 2nd cut clover. That winter cows ate it the 1st day then wouldn't touch it. I suspect it gave them a bellyache. A friend said let it sit in the barn a year. I did and the following winter they ate it like candy.
