I find it hard to pay piece meal for farm work unless they are truly only going to run a single piece of equipment. For instance, if there’s some down time between raking and baling and he needs to blow off equipment, pressure wash, grease, mow your yard, sweep the shop, vacuum a cab etc. how much is that worth? Probably by the hour but it gets messy bouncing back and forth between piece rate and hourly. Also, piece rate tends to be hard on equipment but...production can increase. Just a thought...
