Sowed oats as a cover crop for new alfalfa seeding. Intent was to bale oats for hay. Oats are ready to mow and bale. Problem is ground is wet. Do not want to track up new alfalfa field and bounce over it for next five years. Thought about waiting for oats to ripen and cut for oats but have no market here for oats. Also chance it is still wet then and combine would make some nice speed bumps for the next few years also. Another choice is to just wait until we can get them mowed and if not hay guality use for bedding and let cows pick through and eat the oats they want. Oh Mother Nature and the decisions we continue to be faced with this year.

Will have great beef hay at any stage the oats are cut with the alfalfa mixed in. Cut for hay when you he ground is right.
