Once you get your own plow, plastic gets cheap and connections are hard. With long runs like that (fewer connections per acre drained), I'd consider making things simpler by just moving your spacing closer together so 4" pipe has adequate capacity for your drained area, and making a few extra connections. Seems a lot simpler than starting and stopping a tractor plow, putting in the reducer, and messing around with multiple tile sizes. And you get better drainage. You have to do a little math and know your ground slopes, though - in other words, you have to do some pre-planning. Those long runs are sure fulfilling! Seat time is easy time. Also a comment on drainage coefficient - tile spacing is what usually controls drainage coefficient on laterals, typically much more limiting than tile capacity. Achieving a 1/2" DC capacity in your lateral doesn't accomplish anything if your lateral aren't close enough together to use it. Definitely a good question, requires a lot of knowledge and nuance to get to the best answer.
