I think what you are asking ‘stairstep’ would be the correct reply.

Slope plays into it a lot.

Be careful you plan the mains to take all the water in a watershed, not just the areas you want to tile this year. Undersized mains are the trouble over and over. We all add on later, the main needs to handle all this.

Laterals in a pattern tile are less critical, but it’s imporant to plan right.
