Subject: 1991 GMC Topkick Blown 427 Gas Engine Repower?

West Middletown

Bought last September with 112,xxx miles. Nice truck all the way around, live tandem, Hendrickson Suspension, Heil 13 foot bed, good tires, fresh valve job, rebuilt Allison Automatic, etc.

On my 13th load last fall, 13 tons of Rip-Rap odometer clicked over to 113,000 miles and with truck loaded a lifter came apart. Limped home, I think it was October 13th. Pulled intake and dropped oil pan. Cleaned out all the broken pieces, installed all new lifters and oil pump. Now after 40-50 loads at 113,765 rod thru block and oil pan. No sign of trouble until it exploded. I had even changed the oil after the 1st 100 miles following repair.

Anyway, now it's time to weigh my options. Never was really happy with power of loaded truck.

Anybody ever re-power from gas to diesel in a like kind truck?
