Subject: RE: Cultivating corn

Nevada, Iowa
It always seemed like we had more time then but when we cultivated a lot, we'd spray - wait a week and then cultivate. By then the canopy was usually pushing us hard and the post spray had gotten a chance to do most of its work and we'd have shade kicking in. I used to feel and still do that most residuals applied preplant had pretty well run their course by the time canopy happened in corn and most residual claims of post herbicides weren't much to count on anyway. That said, you'll lose more yield by not spraying than you likely will by not cultivating. Every situation is different and every area too.
