Anyone ever tried to get too cute and end up with a problem?

I once was planting a field that was a little wet, so I set the depth up a few notches. A month later some very nice looking corn started falling over due to rootless corn syndrome. I also thought once that 5 gal of pop up in furrow was working really good, why not try 10 gal. After a couple weeks of hot dry weather......not so good.

This year, after many NAT posts suggested, I cut the soybean population down to 110,000 (15 inch rows) on some soybean fields. Some emergence and stand problems occurred. This might be another lesson learned. It is going to be quite awhile until even a partial canopy occurs.
