Kings Canyon is a ways south of Reno and has a lot of sequoias.  Stump Meadow is a bit surreal and sobering to drive through. Sequoias National Forest is south of Kings Canyon still. If I remember right, there are more redwoods if you go north of Reno to Redding and beyond. Depending on how much time you have, you would just want to pick one direction to go. Five plus hours from Reno to Kings, just under four from Reno to Redding.
