Would this not depend on the price you're paying or taking for the bean seeds. If they are treated seed given to you, that's one thing. But, if you're pulling them from a bin or buying them, then anywhere from $8/bu on up.....right?

At $0.40/lb for N, would 1 bu of bean seed give you more than 20# credit? You might just as well buy the N & put it in the ground. I'm not against conservation, but I also don't agree with having to pay $1 for $0.75 worth of anything. 

But, circumstances can change the equation, I understand. Again, "free seed" could be the ace in the hole.

I am slightly concerned about introducing all these exotic sounding that I've never heard of before, cover crop products into an area they are not normally grown in. Will we be questioning ourselves 10 years from now about whose idea that was?



Ron, soybeans have around 5# N per bushel. If they put on 4 bu of beans, you have your 20 lbs.
