East Central Ia | Personally I would plant a cover crop that will be beneficial for your corn next year. We have been cover cropping cereal rye the last 4-5 years and other then a specific burn down pass of only Glyphosate and AMS I have not had much inconvenience or trouble managing and overwinter cc.
However most of the good nutrient producing/scavenging cc will winter kill.
Clover, radishes, turnips all come to mind.
