| I suppose it might have something to do with yield goals. I'm shooting for 220+ and seeding pops up to 34 k which probably makes smaller stalks and not as strong. If you cut your seed rates down to 20k or under I'm sure the stalks are much thicker and stronger. My memory might be off but I think that 2 kernels of corn per sq. foot equals a bu. per acre and I basically had an ear per square food laying on the ground. It was very frustrating sitting in combine on those acres.
Also some verity's with high yield traits do not take stress as well as the next that probably works better for drought with stronger stalks and shank strength. | |
