Rushville, IN | The Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Children's Home (ISSCH) has been in existence since the end of the Civil War. It's mission is to serve "at-risk" children in the state; this means it cares for children who come from difficult circumstances, whether that be physical abuse, delayed development, mental health issues or academic problems in a traditional school setting. In January, 2009, the Indiana State Dept. of Health announced plans to close this incredible facility. The primary reasons they gave are all money related. The real tragedy in this decision is that over 100 children will lose their home and their school at the end of this school year. This facility has been a God-send to thousands of people...it has given many hope in the shape of an education, as well as being the home in which they grew up. The American Legion has been and continues to be one of the school's biggest advocates. Please take the time to contact your state legislators and urge them to do everything they can to continue funding ISSCH and to keep "The Home" open in order to give the kids of Indiana a better chance at life. | |
