Southeast MN | I have been using white planters since 2005; ran precision finger pickup in a 7000 before that. Added a 5100 white for beans and really appreciated the white meter.
I plant most of my corn using the small size seed disc, even up to 55lb seed by turning up the air. Using a monitor to get skip and double info, along with an ez-air remote fan adjust or, I can dial in the air on the move. Flat seed is trickier so I will only order that if that is the only way to get those genetics.
Biggest plus to the white meter is so simple, spring maintenance is a breeze. Check the brushes, spin the meter shaft to check the bearing and that’s it. I spend more time checking chains, rollers, etc that is needed on any chain drive planter.
Will agree with the other poster though on a 6180; I had tried to resurrect a rough 6180 but the dry fertilizer damage and bad hoses on that thing just about put me out of business. The 8222 now has been exceptional but the frame is much simpler than the 6180.
Good luck with your decision. | |
