Southern Illinois
I have a 06 and just done the bulletproof I agree with most guys a lot of bulletproof come back with blown head gaskets again. In my opinion a lot of guys skimp because of price. I had $6000 in mine and done the work myself with the help of a buddy and I didn’t put new injectors in which was stupid. I done a ipr gen 3 egr delete with coolant filter, new oil cooler, stc fitting, heavy duty stainless hpop screen, blue spring kit, standpipes and dummy plugs, glow plugs, fcim, rebuilt my turbo with a 03 turbine and billet compressor wheel, upgraded turbo lines, exhaust, arp studs, and gaskets I’m sure I’m forgetting some but that was the basics. I feel a lot of the issues are self inflicted. When you do studs and gaskets you need to have your heads checked a lot of shops don’t if you put a warped head back on your asking for trouble. A lot of heads were bad straight from the factory I’m told. Don’t use cheap head gaskets ford Oem is what’s recommended I used fel pro bc I liked some features they had over oem. Ive got 135k on mine. I should of put injectors in mine but once again I skimped because of price it’s very easy to get 10k deep in one especially if your paying someone. The 6.0 was far from the 7.3 it replaced we have both and the 7.3 just goes and goes minus a injector cup replacement we haven’t touched it. If you do buy the truck don’t let it sit drive it like you stole it helps keep the turbo from sticking. I also run 5w40 synthetic for better cold starting and less injector stiction which I can’t say it helped. I’m personally not afraid of the 6.0 just do your homework they are cheap. Some guys have gotten bit pretty hard on them I really like mine though also it’s not chipped yet anyway. And I would not chip it without studs just my 2 cents good luck.
