Which type do you have? The one at the center point, that engages the upright as it turns, or the one that has sensors at the towers? If the one at the tower, I agree with checking the wire, as mine had been chewed by a critter of some sort, and had to be replaced.
Read your owners manual. Mine has a way to test the signal at the control box, I'd assume the newer ones would too.

I don't really get all the grief that people give T&L pivots, between myself and my brother, we run 3 of them, and they are less trouble than the 2 electric ones we have. They are definitely 'different', but have given us almost no trouble. I might add the wiring thing is a big deal around here. Lots of pivots with wiring stolen off of them, some have had the wire taken off the same pivot more than once.
