I think the last one I saw like that had a snap ring on the splined shaft like on a socket wrench anvil or extension to secure its upward movement(but i might be mistaken).You just forced it upward and wiggled and it popped off.
I didn't think that there were any of those left in use?My mom bought the last new one in about 1990+? She didn't use it long and sold it.She owned 3 washing machines in her 86 years, one automatic.Carried the water from the tub to the washer most of her life
