I don't know what you could do to make things better with your GP drill other than make sure it is good repair and has sharp discs and coulters. I am sure a JD or CIH single disc no-till drill would do a much better job of seed depth control. Kuhn-Krause drills have a leading tire in front of their double disc openers to get better depth control. The question is then will better depth control gain you enough yield to pay for a new drill.
