Yeah, I've done it as a last resort when getting help was going to be days in the future. Smaller tractors that I could hold one brake and slip the clutch to help climb slowly out of the hole.
You want to be able to watch it work in order to have any sense of control. Would never use it as standard practice.
One more way to mess your life up over something pretty inconsequential.
