Right now fedex and UPS deliver to rural areas (although unlike UPS I’ve never had USPS actually bury a package in the snowbank). I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the reason they deliver to rural areas now is simply to strengthen the privatization argument.
Sometimes there are guys that do it right. My dad ordered a vacuum cleaner a couple of years ago, and I guess they guaranteed delivery by Christmas, because on Christmas Eve I hadn’t gotten around to plowing the driveway and the fedex guy carried the vacuum cleaner about 300 yards down my driveway through 6” of snow. I complimented him on his dedication, and he said “well, if I didn’t get it here today I’d just have to try again tomorrow.”
