Subject: Oats for late summer planting?

NNW Nebraska
Have some irrigated ground that is short on water. Gpm wise, not total fir the year.

Part of the ground is now in Oats & peas.
When oats/peas is harvested, plan is to let ground set untill first of August, then plant Oats & turnips, possibly peas & ?.

Question is in variety of oats. Recently was told that jerry oats will not freeze down as quick as some varietys.

3 years ago, planted some cover crop mix that included oats. No idea of variety. Those froze down by time I really needed grazing.
Later planted some oats after getting some rye combined & straw baled. Rye was late. Was afraid to spend much on a crop that late & was a rented field that I wouldn't have following year. Got some oats out of neighbors bin & planted thick. Those did not freeze down & continued to stay green & grow some up untill dec 1st when we moved cows just before a major snow storm. At the time I was thinking difference was later planting date.
Neighbour told me he thought the oats I got from him was jerry oats.

So is Jerry oats what I want for late summer planting?
