Technology advanced long ago to make manual transmissions all but obsolete for basic transportation-not a "skill" most of us need.
Like it or not, a manual is still the cheapest way to harness an internal combustion engine. Cheapest to build/buy, and cheapest to maintain. I don't see that changing as long as IC engines exist.
There might not be many manuals available, but I would still recommend someone to learn and use it if they plan to keep a vehicle long term. It will be cheaper all around.
Europe doesn't have our fear of manual gearboxes. My sister recently moved to Ireland, and found that all the cheap cars are stick shift. |
