the stalks aren't keeping you out of the field in the spring. its lack of soil health and structure that is. we get rid of them stalks for a couple days in the spring for planting then spend the rest of the year praying for timely rains because with the tillage most of the rain runs off and we lose so much water through evaporation. them corn stalks can be used during the summer to feed worms to make new rich top soil, protect the soil from the sun, help hold weeds back, give something to equipment to drive on. last years corn roots did all the tillage for us and gives this summers rains and air to get into the soil.
