I don’t put much faith in forecasts anymore. I have 3 different weather apps on my phone plus the weather band on the radio in the tractor and none of them agree with each other and they change daily and sometimes multiple times a day. Just my opinion but the time to wait for good conditions was a month ago. We all pay a penalty for working wet ground but what choice do you have when you only get a 1 or 2 day window between rains to get something done. You can’t collect your full insurance or receive any tariff payments if it’s not in the ground. It sucks and in an ideal world those shouldn’t be concerns but that is the reality we are dealing with. Unfortunately we don’t get to make the rules. I will let others debate the wisdom or morality of govt payments and crop insurance but I have to do what makes my bottom line work. For what it’s worth in my area even the farmers who are usually extremely particular are working ground wet. Very little if any in my area has been worked that was truly dry enough.
