Madison Co. Virginia | The primary issue is that the workers are just there for a job and little else. They've not had a lifetime of experience with cattle, or accumulated the empathy that goes with.
I'll admit, that I've been guilty of a lot of those same behaviors in the past. Punishing a calf that doesn't feel like drinking? Yes, that's happened. As time moves on, I've mellowed in my response, and have learned more about how a cow or calf thinks. That, and I've also gained a better appreciation for the value of an animal, and the value of that animal's calm demeanor.
Problem is, when you take the typically impatient excitable male worker, and pay him to simply "get the job done", that kind of behavior can simply be expected from a portion of the workforce. | |
