North Central Illinois | All good points that you bring up. A year ago, I got "I wish I could, but with $3 corn..." "The drainage district only taxes to keep the ditch clean, and that's too much (it's $1.50 acre)" and "send your proposal to my lawyer so we can see if there are any concerns for us," when I asked around last spring. So, I'm still not too optimistic about a community project unless one or two parcels involved change hands. We'll see though.
That corn looks better than anything around here. There's one field just down the road from from me that is pattern tiled. I don't know how close or any specifics, I just remember all the trenches when I was a kid. It was planted in late April, and has had a couple spots go underwater 3 times this spring and looks surprisingly good. Even the parts that pond have something of a stand because of how fast the water goes down. That certainly is paying for itself this year. | |
