JD 566 balers can be had for cheap... 567 and 568's for a little more depending if you want net wrap and such. If you have a tractor you can add a rake and a baler for $15,000 and have a nice set up. Hire it swathed if you can rely on it. I'd want to control when I baled it more so than when I swathed it... but they are both time sensitive jobs.
But I also agree, at what you are paying for hay, it doesn't make much sense to invest in machinery yet.
