I went to NBC Nightly News website and watched the video again. It doesn't say that at all. What it says is the African Swine Fever is causing a shortage of pork in China. And that is going to create a world-wide shortage. And people may need to change what they eat. I think the inference is that if China is short on pork they raise in China, they will go outside of China to buy and import what they need, or what they can get. And that is what is going to drive the price of pork up. It would not surprise me at all if pork processors in the USA see a potential market and increase the number of barns - and pigs raised - in the USA to help meet this anticipated increase in demand. |
