East Central SD | I'll plant as late as June 1st (7% loss of guarantee on those acres) but no later. Wasn't it 2008 that wet corn (30%) stood in field all winter? Some of mine did and was appraised about 100 bu. weighed 48#. Sure don't need a lot of that to deal with in the fall or spring again and have it lower the APH, or lower the average yield of timely planted corn ( I"m 50% planted) This is why for me it is attractive to PP and not plant till June 10 (15% deduction). I also remember the cold, wet summer of 1993 and how that miserable year ended in early September with a killing frost. I'll never forget all the stalk chopped, and plowed under corn that year to collect a 0-92 payment. | |
