Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | Dad had his old house (original section built 1892) roof redone a few years ago, torn off about 3 layers of old shingles and a layer of wood shakes. Had new 5/8" OSB put on roof, and tar paper and new shingles, with new ridge vent cap. (2 story, steep roof pitch plus dormers, too) He didn't want a steel roof. (plus it was more money) Glad he hired it done, it was a lot of work, and roofer had a big crew. Dad and myself, did his single story garage, about 7 years ago; and stripped down to trusses(old shingles and shakes) and used 3/4" plywood, ice and water shield, and all steel roof, and it was a big job also. (but probably only 20-25% of what the house would have been)
