If you don’t need it don’t buy it.

But they sell a ton of them, must be a lot of stupid people out there. You know, those who are too lazy to switch implements day and night, don’t want to put twice as many hours on tractors, whine about a sore neck, or generally treat haying as a real business.

Lol, well said.

The guys that complain about sore necks apparently don't know what they make these things now called mirrors that you can look behind you without turning your head. Recently we put a pencil to how much it actually cost us to put a hay on an average year,. On a average year it costs about $25 per ton, including the fuel transportation and Machinery depreciation. On a Poorer year it cost us about $35 a ton. Our main Haying implements new Cost us 110,000, and are operated by mostly 40 year old tractors. And we cover about 2,000 acres a year. Just mowing alone, we put on around 200 to 300 hours yearly, but on a $12,000 tractor with 12000 hours on it it doesn't really matter much. Like you said run your business like a business. If you want to spend $200,000 on a self-propelled swather because it makes you feel good that's fine. But if you're talking about actual justification, it's not even close to a tractor/ pull type
