Tuscola, IL | Is the compressor actually running when you have 100 PSI on the low side? What was the reason behind replacing the compressor? Had the original compressor failed? When you replaced the compressor did you replace the expansion valve and dryer? I have a sneaking suspicion the compressor is actually off and you’re seeing the pressures equalizing. My guess is, since you are hitting 5 psi on the low side, you are tripping the low pressure switch and the compressor is cycling off due to that. I can’t imagine what could cause the compressor to build 100 psi on the low side when running. At that pressure, I would think the compressor would be locking up and the belt squealing. I’ve never had it happen to me, but the service manager I used to work for told stories of compressors coming apart and/or locking up when a guy would charge too fast and build 40+ psi in the low side. Something about the refrigerant not being able to change to vapor fast enough. | |
