Use the Deere bolts, and torque to at least 250 lb/ft. If the threads in the block and front casting are good, there is no reason to go to a longer bolt. If the threads are poor, there is a longer bolt available from Deere. It was used in the frame on some of the older articulated tractors. I don't have the number in front of me here, but I could post it when I get back to the shop tomorrow. I've also used helicoil thread inserts to fix a lot of blocks, and have never had a problem. They may be stronger than the original cast.
