Easy math says corn an soybean farmers are gonna get $88/acre regardless of what crop as long as its planted. So this is an incentive to PLANT more corn IMO. And probably beans too. Your PP indemnity just got $88/acre less attractive and if you were considering PP yesterday now you will likely wait another few days and see if you can get a few more acres in. May put a cap on corn prices vs. what was possible a couple days ago. On beans well there is still time to get those acres in on ground before final plant date. In fact this is an incentive to go back and plant those mud holes on july 1. USDA just covered your seed and chemical cost for you. Why not plant beans for and get 30 bu x $8 = $240 plus $88 mfp pmt. vs. about $180-$200 PP indemnity. (i only have 65% coverage but it still works for me. Plant every acre i can now.
