Subject: RE: Planting Discrepancies: FBN & USDA

A Holiday Inn Express, somewhere in farm country.
Hi Everyone,

There is a reason for the discrepancy. USDA reports released on Monday afternoon are typically from data collected days before. The FBN survey is taken the morning it is released so represents a real time estimate as of that day. It is expected for some planting progress to have been made in the 3-4 day window between USDA data collection and ours.

As to the question of the sample, our sample reached 9.7M acres in total spanning 2,997 respondent farms. While it may be skewed to larger farmers, our data scientists weight the results by farm size to provide as accurate a picture as possible.

All that said, nothing is perfect and we know our poll is not perfect but it should be a useful data point. We provide our members polls regularly through planting, harvest and over the summer on key agronomic and market issues.

Tonight we will be hosting a market outlook webinar at 4 PM with our Chief Economist, Kevin McNew link here: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8965993256256176139
