+1. Downside is that price discovery is broken by these clowns so that 16% stocks/use is given value of cost of production or lower. With any significant production disruption that occurs, the market snaps into rationing mode harming end users and affecting market demand/input cost structure for corn for years.
Yup, that is exactly right. And the safety net of PP is gonna backfire big time this year. I don’t like govt intervention anymore than anybody else, but the insurance program is in their control, and only they can modify the terms, in this case sweeten the pot. All anybody needs to do is look what happened in the PIK year. If we have a repeat of that fiasco, God help us.



Could you please explain what you mean about the fiasco of PIK? I remember a little bit about my dad having set aside or pik and roll
Well, in order to deal with the massive stockpiles of grains, the govt implemented a huge set aside program, up to. 45% of base acres. Called it 0/45. Then along came a major drought in the same year. Iirc, we raised a 4.1 corn crop that year, or about a half a crop at that time. Be like a 7.5 crop now to put in perspective.
