South Central Iowa | Me too. What is in is very sickly looking. The young corn needs heat and a little dryness to get better established.
But what would that matter if the 50% of corn acres still to go don’t have a window in the next 2-3 weeks? If we only add 7-8% a week over the next two and sit at 65-70% complete on the June 3 crop progress, are we seriously going to get a ton more corn in? And if beans are at 35-40% planted on that day?
I shudder to think of the livestock feeders and ethanol plants. And think of the slander ethanol will face in the media again. Plants will do temporary shut downs, they can’t afford $6.00+ corn with national gas prices in the $2’s.
I’ve had a target of $5.94 for a long-time with clearance of $4.49, maybe this is the year... have no idea how much to sell, this crop that’s out in my fields could be awful. | |
