Have you updated the software in the steer command in the last few months, The latest update made a whole different beast out of my supersteer Genesis as far as line acquisition goes, went from what your describing to very good. 
Dealer menu in the old version had about 11 settings for line acquisition I think, new version only has 1 or 2.
