Scranton | Years ago on this here site, I recall the infamous Plowboy making a statement that poultry litter dumped on frozen ground is always a mucky mess underneath, even months later, while litter dumped on unfrozen ground is usually firm, even if its muddy when dumped. I think of this every spring as I load turkey litter from my fields. The loads trucked out in January are a mucky mess underneath...the loads from april are firm and easy to load.
Precip before dumping seems to be a non factor, as ours was dry and froze in january and wet and thawed in april.
