You can plant it that far north . I know of a small patch in central Mo every year for the past 5 years . It actually has looked fairly good about every year. last year it was planted on this date 15 . I'm not sure about the finger pick ups , Plants good with brush meters and cotton plates . we plant 27000 to 32000 . You should be able to find some seed in southern Ka . But look out for sticker shock . is around 600.00 a 230k bag . Also a lot more to it that plant and walk away . Lot of spraying to do it right, also side dressing to do and PGR to keep from getting rank or to big . Then it will need to be defoliated and treated with a boll opener to get it to open up right . Not trying to discourage you but just a little heads up it is a complicated crop , but really challenging to grow that's what makes it fun . LOL
