I had a spot to do But I wanted to replicate the “wood” grain. I took a thin damp paint brush (pin-striping brush) and brushed in some grain to the putty. Worked alright but I did very lightly sand after to soften my grain.
Personal residence I’d say replace the door.
Rental fix the door.
