No, a casual observer would not think the US economy is growing because of some perceived view of Trump taking China to the woodshed. That same myopic view that you say people should get away from is exactly what allows you to say that. It’s only your perceived bias that allows you to reach that conclusion. No one with any economic background is saying that.
